The Howard County Economic Development Authority is proud to announce the first Ignite Howard County event scheduled for April 13, 2015. The inaugural event will take place at Jailbreak Brewing Company in Laurel, Maryland.

Epitaxial Technologies Poised for Growth in Howard County

Howard County Economic Development Authority today announced a $250,000 Catalyst Loan for Epitaxial Technologies, LLC. The three year loan will be used to expand the company’s operations and support the development of Epitaxial’s optical sensor technology.

Souping Up Your Makerbot

This workshop will focus on enhancements and upgrades that end users can make to their MakerBot Replicator 2 and Replicator 2X desktop printers. The Makerbot printers are great machines however there is some room for improvement. This workshop will introduce the student to details regarding these printers and what modifications and upgrades can be installed to create exceptional print quality. The workshop will also address the regular maintenance of these printers to keep them producing prints with optimal quality. This is an invaluable workshop for anyone!

3D Maryland's Open Lab Night

3/06/15 6:00 PM We are launching Friday Night Open Lab Nights beginning with two Open Labs on Friday 20 February and 6 March, 6-9 PM. The 3D Maryland Innovation + Prototyping Lab will be open for people to casually drop by and learn more about hardware, software, swap tips, do demos, and talk turkey. Thought Leaders: Sci-Fi/Sci-Fact: Research Today + the Direct Digital Manufacturing Revolution

Engineers and designers are bound by traditional manufacturing constraints, limiting innovation in manufacturing. Additive manufacturing processes make possible new physical geometries for specific applications and conditions including 3D printed electronics. The synthesis of materials to software to hardware that additive manufacturing technologies have exploded in recent years prove the “optimal design” concept leading to 3D printed electronics, integrated systems, and additive manufacturing on the molecular scale. Breakthroughs require a challenge to industrial-era thinking, thinking organically in three dimensions rather than layer-by-layer.

Introduction to 3D Desktop Printing

3/16/15 6:30 PM This workshop will introduce users to 3D Desktop Printing for those who want a clear understanding of the technology, available products, and the process of design and printing of 3D objects. Topics such as Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Stereolithography (SLA) will be covered. The tool chain from idea to print will be explained. The only prerequisite for the class is having a healthy curiosity about 3D printing.
