Schedule Announced for the 10th Annual Howard County Farm-City Celebration
September 11, 2013
Columbia, MD (9/11/2013) – For two weeks this fall, farms in Howard County will open their doors to their urban neighbors, encouraging them to reconnect with agriculture community.
The Farm City Celebration has been a tradition between farmers and the community for the past 9 years. This year’s celebration will begin on Saturday, September 21 and runs through Sunday, October 6, 2013.
“It is a celebration of the harvest as well as an opportunity for the farms to showcase what they grow and how they grow their crops,” said Kathy Zimmerman, Agricultural Program Manager at the Howard County Economic Development Authority.
The 10th Anniversary of the Howard County Farm City Celebration will feature new events as well as some of the favorites from previous years.
Events this year include Rodeo and Bull Busting, bike rides through the county, pumpkin picking, the Horse Rescue Fall Festival, or Howard County Conservancy’s events and University of Maryland’s Central Research Farms Festival on the last weekend.
“Farm City is a great opportunity for County residents to learn about the impact our local agricultural community has on the county,” said Larry Twele, CEO of the Howard County Economic Development Authority. “This celebration is another way that we can help support one of the county’s major industries.”
Events will be held at several county farms, the Howard County Conservancy, University of Maryland’s Central Research Farm, and libraries throughout the county.
