Thursday, July 25, 2019

The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) Board of Directors unanimously voted to elect Steven Snelgrove, President of Johns Hopkins Medicine – Howard County General Hospital, as the new Board Chair and Cyndi Gula, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Gula Tech Adventures, as the new Board Vice Chair.

“We are excited that the HCEDA Board of Directors made the decision to elect Snelgrove and Gula to lead them and guide this organization,” said Lawrence Twele, CEO of the HCEDA. “Both individuals have dedicated themselves to the service of our organization and we look forward to working with them in their ne w capacity.”

Snelgrove is President of Howard County General Hospital, a position he has held since 2014. He has also been an active member of the HCEDA Board since 2014.

“I am honored to serve as the new chairman of the Howard County Economic Development Authority following the strong leadership of its former chair Dr. Tim Collins,” said Snelgrove. “Howard County is one of the most attractive business communities in the entire United States based upon its quality of life amenities, amazing public education and healthcare. Our boards work will position this community for continued growth consistent with the strategic plan and our values.”

Gula, who was appointed to the HCEDA Board in 2016, has a rich background in the Cyber and technology field. Gula and her husband, Ron Gula, cofounded Tenable Network Security, Howard County’s largest cyber security company, a business they exited from in 2016, before founding Gula Tech Adventures.

“I am honored and excited to serve as Vice Chair for the HCEDA during this exciting time and transformation,” said Gula. “I look forward to seeing the constellation of services the EDA provides along with other components together under one roof at the Howard County Innovation Center, including the Howard Tech Council, the Maryland Center of Entrepreneurship and the HCEDA.”

Senlgrove and Gula replaced Dr. Timothy Collins, Chief Government Relations Officer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and William Stone, President of Mobern Lighting, as Chair and Vice Chair. Dr. Collins resigned from the board at the end of his term due to his relocation out of state for new employment as President-elect of Walsh University. Stone will continue to serve on the HCEDA Board of Directors.

“Our Economic Development Authority is a catalyst for job growth and entrepreneurship in our community and a partner in our vision to expand opportunity and make Howard County the very best place to live and work. I am confident that our newly elected Board Chair Steven Snelgrove and Vice Chair Cyndi Gula will be strong leaders and partners as we continue to support our local businesses, attract new businesses and help them all grow,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “My congratulations to both of them for their unanimous election and my sincere thanks to outgoing Board Chair Dr. Timothy Collins and Vice Chair William Stone for their dedicated leadership.”
